what we offer

Our activities and courses are designed to nurture, enhance and improve skills that are needed in everyday life. We aim to provide a supportive and encouraging environment where young adults can thrive and gain confidence.

Art

Our Art sessions offer creativity and expression for each individual. Working on technical skills and the use of equipment our service users will learn;

Drawing – Using lines and shapes to represent objects.

Painting – Exploring primary colours, mixing paint, brushwork and different painting techniques using assistive technology.

Textiles – Working with fabrics, threads and fibres to create sensory artwork.

Salon

Emulating a working environment our service users learn skills suitable for employment. Our brand-new state of the art Salon allows our service users to learn the fundamentals of the Salon environment, including safely using all of the equipment on offer. Personal care and hygiene allows the service users to take the skills they have learned home and implement outside of Living to Learn. All service users will be taught the science of hair and how to care for it, alongside the basics of massage relaxation and nail art.

Cooking

Cooking sessions allow our service users to explore the kitchen and uses of utensils. Our promotion of independent cooking allows our service users to take full control of the kitchen and create small dishes with minimal support from staff in a safe and engaging environment.

Community Projects

Our community activities allow our service users to give back to their community, creating a sense of belonging and achievement. Our service users have been involved in many projects and regularly volunteer at the Rising Sun Country Park for their monthly litter pick.

Courses

We have tailor made specialist courses which will enhance a service users’ level of skill, knowledge and understanding through the following courses;

Cookshop Course, Salon Course, Art Course, Independent Living Course

These courses are created in house and tailored to suit the needs of the service user to ensure they are able to learn and retain the information taught within the sessions and transfer these skills to the home or working environment.

Residential Trips

At Living to Learn we host an annual residential trip giving our service users a well-deserved holiday. Outward bound residential trips ensure our service users get to experience something new and build relationships with their peers during their time away.

Allotment

Our service users have the opportunity to learn how to grow produce of their choice. Each service user will have their own bed at our purpose-built allotment and can decide what they want to grow. Working sessions at our allotment will provide a sense of achievement and seeing their efforts bear fruit (literally), using produce grown from land to table. This is a great way to support mental well-being and experience the changing seasons.

Music and Drama

Music and Drama sessions allow self-expression, combined with the use of Makaton taught from our competent practitioners. We aim to build each service users confidence through these sessions and give the chance to perform in shows and at our annual Christmas Fayre. Working on mood enhancement and communication skills.

Skills

Our skills workshop allows a range of creativity from upcycling of wood, with the use of specialist tools and machinery in a safe and enabling environment to large art creations and mastering home decorating skills. Our service users have the opportunity to design, and create their ideas with the support of our practitioners.

Social

A key part of Living to Learn is building social relationships with their peers during social time each day or out in the community at pub lunches and activities. This is very important as we like to see our service users create lasting relationships and build friendships for life.

building confidence in young adults

Our tailored and individual service allows all young adults attending to reach their full potential in everyday life.
